Nudging and Social Policy
Module Objectives
The students
- learn about the opportunities and challenges that are associated with nudging in social policy
- are able to apply their knowledge to a specific research question related to the concept of nudging
- are able to discuss their research and that of other seminar participants in plenary sessions
Content
The seminar provides an introduction into the field of nudging in social policy. It covers theoretical and empirical work on nudging, discusses ethical considerations, and helps to understand current and likely future developments in this field. The seminar consists of two parts. In part 1, chapters from the book by Richard H. Thaler and Cass R. Sunstein “Nudge: The Final Edition”, Penguin Publishing Group, 2021, will be presented by participants and critically discussed in class. In the second part, each participant writes a paper and gives a presentation on a specific topic in the field of nudging in social policy. The topics of the individual projects will be announced in the seminar.
Prerequisites
- Participants should have knowledge of microeconomics.
